The general education requirements are designed to develop the whole, educated person with outstanding leadership ability that fits in with the information age. The program consists of required and elective courses offered in a variety of fields. It introduces not only essential knowledge but also makes connections across disciplines and, in the end, prepares one for the application of knowledge to life beyond the campus. Underlying the requirements is the philosophy that educated people understand all areas of study as impinging upon all others. Furthermore, in order to be effective members of the community, students must possess knowledge and skills beyond those expected in their areas of specialization and be able to adapt to change.
