Participate in the 1st Tchaikovsky International Online Piano Competition

The first international online piano competition for commemorating the great composer Tchaikovsky will start in March, 2019.

The competition encourages young pianists under the age of 17 to master classical music, receive evaluations by renowned music critics around the world, and give live performances.

The competition is overseen by Korea-Russia Arts and Culture Association and a nonprofit Association of Tchaikovsky Competition Stars(ATCS), and is sponsored by SCU, a renowned online university in Asia.

Regardless of nationality, all applicants who are under 17 years (born after March, 2002) are eligible to apply via SCU website, http://tchaikovsky.iscu.ac.kr . The deadline is March 1st, and the application fee is USD 100.

The competition holds two rounds, and finalists will be invited to SCU to play with an orchestra.

The 1st round is March 26-29, and the 2nd round is April 3-5. Finalists will play on April 18, and award ceremony and gala concert will be held on April 19.

The 1st, 2nd, and 3rd winners will receive USD 15,000, USD 10,000, and USD 500 respectively. All other awardees will receive USD 2,000. (*Official schedule is subject to change under the circumstance of SCU)                    



There will be nine judges in total. They are Alexander Sokolov(Russia), Tamas Ungar(US), Daejin Kim(Korea), Kyungsook Lee(Korea), Vladimir Ovchhinnikov(Russia), Liu Shin Kun(China), Soyoung Yoon(Korea), Yasuo Watanabe(Japan), and Pascal Nemirovski(France).

SCU established the department of piano performance and study as an online university for the first time. Aiming to nurture professional musicians and interdisciplinary scholars, SCU holds the most qualified faculty in Korea and abroad, and offers students different opportunities for certificates and qualifications. SCU offers online and offline lessons in collaboration with renowned professors abroad. Yun Soyeong, the chair of department of piano performance encourages people to participate and take interest in the first Tchaikovsky international online piano competition. She sees it as an opportunity for students to share their passion for music.

Dr. Eunju Lee, the president of SCU, calls for participants from December 1st. Other than department of piano performance, SCU has around 30 majors including creative writing and literature, electronic electric engineering, software convergence, global development and cooperation, global trade, big data and information security.
