SCU (President: KANG In)'s Institute for Future Social Strategy is holding an international symposium titled the 2021 International Symposium: big data, AI, and education. The event, which will start at 9:00 am on October 29, 2021 (Korean Standard Time), will be broadcast live.

The following experts will give keynote speeches: Srijith Rajamohan (lawyer specializing in development; data science and machine learning, Databricks); Prof. LEE Sanghun (Electronic Engineering Department, Yonsei University); Joe Bungo (Program Manager, Deep Learning Institute, NVIDIA); Prof. CHEON Jiyeong (Big Data & Information Security Department, SCU), Prof. Woo Jonguk (University of California/SCU Computer Science & Engineering Department).

Those from Databricks and NVIDIA, which are leading businesses in Silicon Valley specializing in hi-tech AI big data technology, and Big Data AI Center of University of California will give presentations on the present and future prospects of information technology and engage in discussion sessions on Big Data, AI, and hi-tech education. The symposium is expected to provide a good opportunity for those in the country to learn updated technology befitting the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. IT businesses and universities are also expected to work together to provide futuristic insights into the ways to come up with education and research on AI and Big Data.

SCU's Institute for Future Social Strategy, which is hosting the symposium, is making substantial academic results on the studies of future society in general. Its academic journal Future Society has been the only one among the academic journals issued by domestic cyber universities to be registered with the National Research Foundation of Korea (NRFK). Its authority and expertise are recognized widely by those in the sector. Said Institute aims to engage in research and provide education service to provide preventive methods and solutions concerning problems that are expected to occur in future society. SCU takes it upon itself to serve as a platform or a hub for research on future society concerning professional theory and practical technology in an effort to create leading academic models in the era of digital transformation.

We at SCU have come to hold the symposium to share information on updated technologies in the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution with others to give an impetus to Big Data/AI-related education. We will continue to provide diverse education/research opportunities on future society, SCU President KANG In said.

At present, SCU is striving to develop education model (On-Flex) and programs for education reforms befitting the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution with financial support from the MOE. This year, our school was selected for the K-MOOC (Korea Massive Open Online Course)Program for the fourth consecutive year, and it has been the top university selected for the program in 2021 in terms of the number of lectures.

As the undisputed No.1 cyber university in the country, SCU is equipped with a unique online education system optimized for the contactless era. In 2021, we were selected for the program on supporting cyber universities' education reform, MOE's first financial support program for cyber universities. Thus, we will be able to contribute more to the expansion of updated online education demand and dissemination of good-quality remote education through the establishment of the relevant infrastructure.
