a Powerful Performance at the Blue House New Year’s Reception
- Took the stage at the New Year’s Reception held on
January 2nd (Fri), at the Blue House State Guest House
Professor Son Ji Su of the Department of Voice
at our university delivered a moving performance at the New Year’s Reception
held on January 2nd (Fri), at the Blue House State Guest House,
celebrating the start of the 2026.
On this occasion, Professor Son appeared on stage alongside an intergenerational combined choir and military vocal performers, performing “I’m a Korean,” originally sung by Jo Su Mi, as well as the national anthem. The grand finale of the reception was marked by harmonies imbued with the spirit of the New Year, adding both symbolic meaning and dignity to the event through a performance that transcended generations.
![]() Professor Son Ji Su, a full-time faculty
member in the Department of Voice and an internationally active soprano,
graduated from the Department of Voice at Seoul National University and
completed the highest-level performance program (Canto Biennio Opera) at the
Conservatorio Giuseppe Verdi di Milano in Italy. She has earned widespread
recognition for her artistry, winning numerous prestigious competitions,
including the Grand Prize at the National Opera Company of Korea Competition
(Minister of Culture and Tourism Award), first prize at the Lee Dae Woong
Competition, the Gold Prize at the Shin Young Ok Competition, and first prize
at the Seongjeong Music Competition.
She has collaborated with leading
orchestras across Korea and was selected to perform the role of Adina in the
opera L’elisir d’amore at the 10th Korea Opera Festival, appearing on the stage
of the Seoul Arts Center Opera House. She was subsequently named a “Young
Artist of the Seoul Arts Center.” Her operatic repertoire includes leading
roles such as Gilda in Rigoletto, Musetta in La Boheme, and Papagena in The
Magic Flute. She also received enthusiastic acclaim for her portrayal of
Christine in the musical The Phantom of the Opera, which returned to the Korean
stage after 13 years.
Currently working as a full-time professor
in the Department of Voice at our university, Professor Son is dedicated to nurturing
the next generation of vocalists, drawing on her extensive stage experience and
professional expertise.
Reflecting on the performance, Professor
Son remarked, “It was a truly meaningful experience to stand on the stage of
the New Year’s Reception held at the Blue House,” adding, “I sincerely wish
everyone a year filled with happiness and hope as we welcome the 2026.”
Meanwhile, the Department of Vocal Music at
our university, established in 2018, is the first online vocal music department
in Korea. By combining online and offline instruction, it offers customized
education that allows students to pursue their dreams of vocal performance
anytime and anywhere, even with limited time. The curriculum includes online
instruction on singing foreign-language repertoire, introductory vocal studies,
sight-singing and ear training, stage movement utilizing performance spaces,
and a wide range of liberal arts courses.
In addition, the department provides comprehensive professional performance training tailored to students’ individual skill levels through on- and offline practical courses, one-on-one lessons, small-group lessons, master classes, and level-based lecture content by academic year. Students also benefit from specialized lectures delivered by Korea’s top faculty members and world-renowned vocalists from Korea and abroad, ensuring a rich and professional educational experience. |
