The Voice Department Professor Lee
Seung Hyun’s Solo Recital on the 6th of January - Performance to take place at 7:30 PM at Kumho Art
Hall Yonsei
Professor Lee Seung Hyun, a soprano and
faculty member of the Department of Vocal Music (Chair: Professor Lee Yoon Jung)
at our university, will present a solo recital on Tuesday, the 6th,
at 7:30 PM at Kumho Art Hall Yonsei.
Professor Lee received her bachelor’s and
master’s degrees from the Juilliard Pre-College and the Manhattan School of
Music, and earned her doctoral degree from the University of Cincinnati
College-Conservatory of Music. She previously served as a visiting professor at
Baylor University in Texas, USA, and has also taught as a lecturer at the Korea
National University of Arts, Sejong University, and Chung-Ang University. She
is the recipient of the Grand Prize in the Cultural and Arts Merit category at
the 12th Korea Unification Culture Festival, and has won First Prize
at the Mario Del Monaco Competition, First Prize at the Francesco Cilea
Competition, and Second Prize at the Mario Lanza Competition. In addition, she
has demonstrated her artistry through numerous opera productions, solo
recitals, and concerts. She is currently serving as a professor in the Voice Department
of our university.
This recital will be presented under the
theme “Old and New Series IV,” featuring an ensemble that brings together
piano, the Nuove String Quartet, clarinet, guitar, and traditional Korean
instruments such as janggu and buk. In Part I, Professor Lee will perform
Western classical vocal works, including Mozart’s Exsultate, Jubilate (K.165),
lute songs by Dowland, and Schubert’s The Shepherd on the Rock. Part II will
feature seven Arirang art songs performed in collaboration with traditional
Korean instruments. The program is expected to offer a unique and memorable
stage where Western music harmoniously blends with Korea’s traditional musical
heritage.
Professor Lee shared her thoughts on the
upcoming performance, stating, “As this recital takes
place in the first week of the new year, I am very much looking forward to
sharing a special moment of connection through music. I hope to warmly resonate
with the audience on a stage where Western music and Korean traditional music
come together, and to celebrate the beginning of the new year through music.”
Meanwhile, the Department of Vocal Music at
our university, established in 2018, is the first fully online vocal music
department in Korea. By offering both online and offline classes, the
department provides customized education that allows students to pursue their
vocal dreams anytime and anywhere, even with limited time availability. The
curriculum includes online instruction on singing in foreign languages,
foundational courses such as Introduction to Vocal Music and Sight Singing and
Ear Training, stage movement classes that teach effective use of the body in
performance, and a wide range of liberal arts courses.
In addition, the department offers comprehensive practical training through both online and offline performance-based courses, including one-on-one lessons, small group lessons, master classes, and level-based content lectures by academic year, all tailored to students’ individual abilities. With top-tier faculty members and special lectures by renowned vocalists from Korea and abroad, the department provides highly professional and diverse educational content. |
