Nutcracker ballet invitation event. On December 13th (Sat), the
University successfully hosted an invitation event for the Korea National
Ballet’s The Nutcracker for current students, newly admitted and transfer
students, and prospective applicants. The event took place at the Seoul Arts
Center Opera House. Through an advance application and lottery system, selected
participants received two complimentary tickets each, generating enthusiastic
interest and positive responses. In particular, the event was made even more
meaningful and prestigious by the presence of Kang Sue Jin, Korea’s
representative ballerina and Artistic Director of the Korea National Ballet,
further elevating the status and significance of Seoul Cyber University’s
cultural programs. Committed to fostering students’ humanistic
knowledge and cultural sensibility, the University has consistently organized
high-quality cultural and artistic events every year for its students. Past
events have included year-end concerts featuring soprano Jo Su Mi, as well as
renowned performances such as Swan Lake, Mata Hari, and musicals including
Mamma Mia!, Kinky Boots, Les Miserables, The Count of Monte Cristo, Sister Act,
Phantom, Jesus Christ Superstar, and Come From Away. This year, the University
continued its proud tradition of cultural invitation events by presenting the
winter classic ballet The Nutcracker as a group full-house performance. The Nutcracker is a ballet adapted from the
original fairy tale The Nutcracker and the Mouse King by German author E. T. A.
Hoffmann. Since its premiere in 1892 by the legendary composer Pyotr Ilyich
Tchaikovsky and choreographers Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov, it has been loved
worldwide for over 130 years as a quintessential winter classic. Along with
Swan Lake and The Sleeping Beauty, it is regarded as one of the three great
classical ballets and has been continuously reinterpreted by choreographers
across generations. In this performance, the Korea National Ballet presented
Yuri Grigorovich’s version, showcasing the grandeur and narrative richness of
Russian ballet, and delivering a majestic yet lyrical stage in harmony with
Tchaikovsky’s powerful music. Meanwhile, audiences were also able to
enjoy the special Korea National Ballet photo exhibition Still in Motion at the
Hangaram Art Museum of the Seoul Arts Center, offering a more enriching
artistic experience. The exhibition featured reinterpretations of seven
signature repertoire works of the Korea National Ballet by six leading Korean
photographers, expressed through a contemporary lens. Even within still images,
the dancers’ movement, breath, backstage tension, and lingering emotions were
vividly captured. Viewing the exhibition before or after the performance
allowed visitors to experience the dynamic moments of ballet more deeply
through another artistic stage, making the occasion especially memorable. President Lee Eun Joo remarked, “Through high-quality cultural events, our University remains committed to expanding students’ humanistic insight and artistic sensibility,” adding, “We hope that, through a variety of cultural and artistic programs, even more people will have the opportunity to experience the student support benefits offered by Seoul Cyber University.” |
