Department of Piano, Pianist Lim Sung Mi Masterclass - Three days Masterclass starting March 20th (Fri),
at Tchaikovsky Hall
The Department of Piano will host a
masterclass by pianist Lim Sung Mi for three days, from March 20th
(Fri) to March 22nd (Sun), at Tchaikovsky Hall. This masterclass is
open to anyone who loves piano music, and further details can be found on the
department’s website. This masterclass was a practical,
performance-oriented session led by world-renowned pianist Professor Lim Sung Mi.
It will not only cover piano performance techniques but also provide an
opportunity to explore musical interpretation and the practical and artistic
challenges that performers commonly face. Pianist Lim Sung Mi entered Seoul National
University’s College of Music as the top student in performance and later
earned her master’s degree with a scholarship from Boston University in the
United States. She has performed extensively in solo and collaborative concerts
at festivals and chamber music performances both in Korea and abroad. She is
currently a professor at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music in the
United States. Kim Ju Young, Chair of the Department of
Piano, stated, “Through this masterclass, students will gain deeper musical
insight under the guidance of Professor Lim Sung Mi, who has been active across
Asia and the United States,” adding, “Our department supports each student’s
growth through performance-centered education as well as in-depth musical
training that can be directly applied in real-world settings.” Meanwhile, established in 2015 as the first
of its kind among cyber universities, the university’s Department of Piano has
been recognized for pioneering a new path in online music education. By
adopting a blended learning approach that combines online theoretical courses
with both online and offline lessons, the department offers systematic
theoretical instruction, differentiated one-on-one lessons, masterclasses by
professors from renowned international music institutions, and overseas
training opportunities for students. In particular, the Disklavier classes in collaboration with the Liszt Academy of Music in Hungary provide students with an experience akin to receiving lessons directly from world-class pianists through advanced optical sensor-equipped pianos. In addition, the university has established an ideal environment for offline instruction by installing world-class German Steinway pianos, multiple grand pianos, and a pipe organ at Tchaikovsky Hall. |
