The university's Web Literary Creation Department is hosting the <2nd Web Novel 20,000-Character Contest> from November 15, 2022 (Tuesday) to December 25, 2022 (Sunday). This marks the second edition following the successful competition held last December. The contest is open to prospective students applying for admission and anyone with an interest in web novels.

As web novels typically have extensive narratives, it's uncommon for web novel contests to request completed manuscripts. However, they generally require a length of over 200,000 characters, equivalent to at least one volume of a standalone novel. Therefore, the most distinctive feature of the current <2nd Web Novel 20,000-Character Contest> is its specified length of '20,000 characters.' Unlike other contests that demand lengthy manuscripts, this competition focuses on assessing the potential of works by requesting an initial length of around 4 to 5 episodes. It is believed that the initial 5 episodes provide a suitable length to gauge the success potential of a web novel.

Professor Kim Joon-hyun, the head of the Web Literary Creation Department organizing this competition, announced, "The success and interest generated in the first competition last year have paved the way for the <2nd Web Novel 20,000-Character Contest>." He continued, "We received a wealth of high-quality works last year, with some winners securing contracts for paid publication. We are committed to hosting this competition annually, striving to establish it as a prominent event in the field of web literature.

Professor Kim Joon-hyun also shared insights into the <2nd Web Novel 20,000-Character Contest>, stating, "Web novels or webtoons often demonstrate the process of creating and repeating story patterns, enlarging them. Within the '20,000-character' limit, showcasing these patterns and illustrating how they repeat and expand can convince readers and encourage them to follow the narrative." He added, "Creating a pattern in the early part of a novel through serialized storytelling, which repeats, is a useful tip not only for the 20,000-Character Contest but also for all types of web novel competitions.

The Department of Web Literary Creation at our university, the first among domestic four-year universities to embrace 'web literature' education, stands out by not only teaching literary theory and practice but also providing practical education on presenting and distributing works through the 'web.' Adapting to the era where all genres, including novels, poetry, and essays, are distributed online, the department's motto is to cultivate students' ability to engage in web-based artistic activities. They are also establishing various systems to facilitate practical pathways for students to become writers. The , jointly operated by the Department of Web Literary Creation and Writer Company since April of this year, is part of this initiative, offering students who received creative education at the school practical training as writers under the mentorship of industry professionals.
