university successfully hosted a masterclass featuring renowned pianist Yeol
Eum Son. This masterclass was organized to provide
current students and alumni with not only practical performance guidance but
also artistic inspiration, offering participants a deeply enriching experience. Pianist Yeol Eum Son, who led the
masterclass, rose to international prominence after winning the silver medal at
the 2009 Van Cliburn International Piano Competition and the 2011 International
Tchaikovsky Piano Competition, where she also received the Best Mozart Concerto
Award and the Best Performance of Commissioned Work Award. She later served as
the artistic director of the PyeongChang Daegwallyeong Music Festival,
presenting distinctive performances and artistic vision across stages both in
Korea and abroad. More recently, she co-founded the “Going Home Project” with
Korean musicians active overseas, bringing fresh energy to the Korean classical
music scene.

recognized for pioneering new frontiers in online music education, continues to
cultivate outstanding musicians by combining structured online theory courses
with professional performance training, while leading the way in innovative
music education through the integration of cutting-edge technology. Students who received direct instruction
commented, “It was a meaningful opportunity to be taught by a world-class
pianist,” expressing high satisfaction. Students who attended as observers were
likewise deeply moved by Yeol Eum Son’s sharp yet warm feedback. Meanwhile, our Department of Piano, established in 2015 as the first of its kind at a cyber university, offers a blended learning model that combines online theory classes with on- and offline lessons. The program includes not only structured theory education but also distinguished one-on-one lessons, masterclasses with renowned professors from prestigious overseas music institutions, Disklavier classes with the Liszt Academy in Hungary, and overseas training opportunities - all designed to build strong performance skills. To support this, the university has equipped Tchaikovsky Hall with world-class facilities, including a German Steinway concert grand piano, multiple grand pianos, and a pipe organ, creating an ideal environment for offline lessons. |
