Summer Poetry Writing Class with Poet Yuk Ho-Su - Online via ZOOM, from July 8th(Tue) to August
12th(Tue)
From July 8th(Tue)
to August 12th(Tue), the
Department of Web Creative Writing will hold a summer poetry writing class with
poet Yuk Ho-Su for enrolled students. This class is designed for those who wish
to become closer to contemporary poetry and will cover the essential elements
needed to write good poems, as well as provide opportunities to write and
workshop poetry together. Poet Yuk Ho-Su, who
will lead the class, is also active as a literary critic. He won the poetry
category of the Daesan College Literary Award in 2016, made his debut in the
spring 2017 issue of Creation and Criticism with his poetry, and won the
literary criticism category of the Segye Ilbo New Year’s Literary Contest in
2022. His publications include the poetry collection Eternal Forbidden Boy
Forbidden Angel Forbidden, the 2022 New Year’s Literary Award Criticism
Collection, AnA (Axt & ARKO) no.2, and Some Blue Evening. The six-week class will
consist of: ▲ Finding My Own Voice ▲ Forms of Poetry ▲ Poetry of the Here and
Now ▲ Poetry Workshop 1 ▲ Poetry Workshop 2 ▲ Presentation and Critique of
Revised Poems. Students will learn methods for discovering their unique voice
and ways to take their work to a higher level through revision. Professor Min Seon,
Chair of the Department of Web Creative Writing, said, “We prepared this
special class for those who wish to write good poetry this summer. We hope for
the active participation of students who want to study contemporary poetry more
deeply.” Meanwhile, the
Department of Web Creative Writing is the first among cyber universities and
four-year universities in Korea to establish “web creative writing” education.
In addition to theory and practice in creative writing, the program educates
students on ways and pathways to present and distribute their works using the
“web” environment - distinguishing it from traditional creative writing
departments. In an era when web novels, webtoons, as well as traditional
literary genres such as novels, poetry, and essays are distributed online, the
department’s motto is to cultivate the ability to create across all genres
using the web as a platform. Furthermore, the department has established various systems to provide practical pathways for students to become writers. Through diverse programs - such as the Web Novel Mentoring Program jointly run with Writer Company Inc. - students are given real opportunities to train as writers and make their debut. |
