The 1st SCU Tchaikovsky Amateur Piano Competition - Scheduled for September 20th(Sat), at
Tchaikovsky Hall, 4th Floor, Building A The Department of Piano, headed by Professor Shin Ji Yeon, will hold the 1st SCU Tchaikovsky Amateur Piano Competition on Saturday, September 20, in celebration of the 185th anniversary of the birth of the great composer Pyotr Tchaikovsky, with support from the Association of Young Tchaikovsky International Competitions (ATCS). Open to all amateur pianists, applications
for the competition can be submitted until
5 p.m. on Monday, September 15, either via the QR code or through the official contest website (contest.co.kr). The entry fee is 120,000 KRW,
and detailed information is available on the Piano Department’s homepage. The competition is divided into two
categories - youth division
(ages 19?34), general division
(ages 35 and above). Participants are required to perform one freely chosen piece from memory. Prizes
include: Grand Prize - 3 million
KRW, 1st Place (each division) 1
million KRW, 2nd Place (each division)
- 700,000 KRW, 3rd Place (each
division) - 500,000 KRW, Encouragement
Awards (5 winners) - 250,000 KRW each In particular, the Grand Prize winner (1 person) and the first-place winners of each division (2 people) will be given the
opportunity to participate in a masterclass
with a professor from the Liszt Academy of Music in Hungary. Professor Shin Ji Yeon, Chair of the Piano Department, stated: “We invite
many talented and passionate pianists to participate in the 1st SCU Amateur
Piano Competition. I hope this event will serve as a platform for participants
to express their passion and dreams through music.” Meanwhile, the Department of Piano, established in 2015 as the first of its kind at a cyber university, has been
recognized for pioneering a new path in online
music education. The program employs a blended learning system that combines online theory courses with both
online and offline lessons, offering not only structured theoretical
education but also personalized 1:1
lessons, masterclasses with
renowned international professors, and overseas training opportunities to build strong performance
skills. In particular, the Disklavier class in partnership with the Liszt Academy of Music in Hungary allows students to experience masterclasses as if the world’s great pianists were right before them- thanks to pianos equipped with advanced optical sensors. The Tchaikovsky Hall is also outfitted with world-class instruments, including Germany’s premium Steinway pianos, multiple grand pianos, and a pipe organ, providing an ideal environment for offline lessons. |
