Shinil Academy (Shinil Foundation, Chairman Lee Sang-gyun of Seoul Cyber University) selected the first ‘2022 Unsung Hero Award’ in Korea to honor the achievements of those who have devoted themselves silently to the hidden places of the cultural and artistic world. The awards ceremony was held at SCU Tchaikovsky Hall on Monday, January 24 at 11:00 am. Unsung hero means ‘hero who is not illuminated’, and refers to people who serve as role models by devotedly silently doing their work behind the scenes. The field of the award covers all genres of performance and all fields of performing arts, including art management. Winners are individuals or organizations that have contributed to and contributed to the culture and art world, regardless of nationality. A prize money of 30 million won and a plaque will be awarded to the unsung hero, and a prize money of 10 million won and a plaque will be awarded to the special prize. This year's unsung hero was Lee Byung-seop, a member of the Performing Arts Center. Mr. Lee works at the Performing Arts Center, the only storage facility for public stage equipment in Korea, and is a hidden worker working hard to store and manage stage equipment, costumes, and items for art groups. He was recognized for his silent work through hard work and sacrifice that no one recognized, waiting 24 hours for the arrival and departure of costumes and props that returned after the performance.


The special award was given to Kim Chung-ja, an artist, Park Chang-soo, a performance planner, and Jang Sam-yoon, a performance publicity expert. Kim Chung-ja established the Ruthville Music Center, Malawi's first specialized music education institution, in a remote village in Malawi, Africa, and is raising her students to become the best musicians in Malawi. Through house concerts, Park Chang-su made great contributions to discovering new musicians, expanding performance opportunities, revitalizing local culture, and improving awareness of the performing arts world. Jang Sam-yoon is praised in the Korean performing arts world for his personal help and extraordinary dignity, and is dedicated to the development of the performing arts world by publishing a monthly guide called "The Preview" containing performing arts information with a strong sense of calling.



The 2022 Unsung Hero Awards were judged by Hong Seung-chan(Chairman, Professor of Art Management at Korean national university of Arts), Kang Su-jin(Director of Korean National Ballet), Lee Kyung-sook(Emeritus Professor at Seoul Cyber University, Department of Piano), Lee Chang-ki(CEO of Seoul Foundation for Arts and Culture) and Hong Seung-ki(Law School Professor at Inha university) participated. Chairman Lee Sang-kyun said, "Thanks to the passion, dedication, and hidden efforts of numerous Unsung heroes in the culture and arts world, Korean culture and arts have been able to develop remarkably," adding, "We hope this selection will serve as an opportunity to remember the noble achievements of those who silently strive for the development of Korean culture and arts."
