With kimchi season approaching, rising prices for ingredients this year pose challenges, especially for isolated seniors and single-parent families.

In response, the Gangbuk District Office in Seoul (Chief Lee Soon-hee), in collaboration with the Democratic Peace Unification Advisory Council Gangbuk District Association (hereafter, Democratic Peace Association Gangbuk District Association, Chairman Kim Jun-ho), and the university (President Lee Eunjoo), conducted the '2023 Kimchi Sharing with North Korean Defectors' on November 23rd (Thursday) at the Gangbuk Culture and Arts Center Square.

This kimchi sharing event aims to help neighbors in need and promote a culture of sharing within the community, striving to create a "together happy neighborhood." The donations were intended for various neighbors, including low-income residents in the area, with the goal of sharing hope and spreading a sense of togetherness.
The Gangbuk District Office, Democratic Peace Unification Advisory Council Gangbuk District Association, and university representatives gathered at the Gangbuk Culture and Arts Center Square on the 23rd (Thursday) starting from 9 AM. They distributed 2,800 kg of kimchi, divided into 7 kg portions, to support marginalized communities in each of the 13 neighborhoods. For the underprivileged in each area, 25 sets were allocated, 100 sets were designated for North Korean defectors, and the remaining 30 sets were handed over to the local community welfare association to assist elderly individuals living alone.

Mayor Lee Soon-hee of Gangbuk District expresses hope that the shared warmth from this kimchi-sharing event brings a little comfort to the local community. She affirmed, 'Gangbuk District will continue supporting ongoing sharing activities for the vulnerable, striving to be a model of community solidarity.
