In anticipation of the first half of the 2024 academic year admissions, the Department of Unification, Security and North Korean Studies is organizing a special lecture series by experts in the unification and security field, along with an admissions briefing.

A series of expert lectures has been organized to provide insights into adapting to the rapidly changing Northeast Asian order and addressing the security dynamics on the Korean Peninsula. The lecture series consists of three parts and will be conducted online. Professor Moon Sanggyun from the Department of Unification, Security and North Korean Studies will lead the first session focusing on the 'Core Issues of Korean Peninsula Security.' The second session, led by Professor Cha Moonseok, will explore the 'Current Situation and Prospects of the Unification and North Korean Issues.' Finally, Kim Youngsoo, Director of the North Korea Research Institute, will discuss the significance of 'Understanding North Korea for Unification' in the third session. All sessions will be streamed on YouTube on December 1st (Friday), December 5th (Tuesday), and December 11th (Monday).

As part of the departmental reorganization for the 2024 academic year, an offline admissions briefing will take place at the university on December 16th (Saturday) for those interested in the Department of Unification, Security and North Korean Studies. The event will begin with words of encouragement from President Lee Eunjoo, followed by a congratulatory speech from Kim Seongdo, the Dean of the National Defense Convergence Department. The briefing will cover an introduction to the department and an overview of academic systems by Lee Jiyoung, the Head of the Department of Unification, Security and North Korean Studies. The program will continue with faculty introductions and a Q&A session. Following the admissions briefing, there will be a joint North-South university student retreat. To register for participation, please visit the Department of Unification, Security and North Korean Studies website.

Lee Jiyoung, Head of the Department of Unified Security and North Korean Studies, remarked, "I hope this briefing serves as an opportunity for attendees to gather useful information about the revamped curriculum, academic systems, and more in our department."

In response to the swiftly changing international order in Northeast Asia, the Department of Unified Security and North Korean Studies has undergone a significant redesign for 2024. The objective is to actively develop experts who can research and analyze issues related to Korean Peninsula reunification, security, inter-Korean relations, and North Korea. Graduates will have diverse opportunities, not only in government institutions like the Ministry of National Defense, Ministry of Unification, Inter-Korean Cooperation Foundation, Unification Research Institute, and Korea Institute for Defense Analyses, but also in various related organizations such as North-South Exchange Cooperation Officers, mentors for North Korean defector social adaptation, settlement facilitators, and more. Furthermore, they can pursue advanced studies in graduate programs related to unified security, North Korea, and peace.
