In 2023, our university joined 'Healing Hearts Like Spring,' a Cultural Arts Healing Program. Collaboration includes the Ministry of Education, Dementia Centers, and Mental Health Centers.

The music therapy program will be conducted from April to November.

By implementing programs, we contribute to the recovery of the local community and the creation of an environment for artistic healing through art therapy. Since 2015, the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, along with the Korean Arts and Culture Education Promotion Institute, has been providing opportunities for individuals to overcome psychological challenges and regain their societal roles through the 'Cultural Arts Healing Program Support Project.

The 2023 Cultural Arts Healing Program Support Project, 'Healing Hearts Like Spring,' aims to offer cultural arts healing opportunities to individuals in the local community. It caters to those who have recently faced mild psychological challenges due to diverse social conflicts, disasters, or those in need of psychological rehabilitation and recovery following mental health treatment. The program is designed with consideration for the local artistic healing ecosystem.

The 'Healing Hearts Like Spring' program is structured to address individual psychological issues through the creative intervention of art. It incorporates counseling and psychological activities based on various artistic techniques, enabling participants to overcome challenges and live together harmoniously as members of the local community.

Earlier this year, Professor Jung-Yoon Yeo from the Department of Music Therapy took on the overall responsibility for a support project application. In the application, our university achieved a remarkable feat by being selected for three project categories and a total of eleven programs, the highest among the participating support organizations.

Between April and November 2023, our university successfully implemented specialized music therapy programs for school maladjustment cases, both victims and perpetrators of school violence, individuals seeking mental health counseling, and those at risk of mild cognitive impairment or dementia. The programs, focused on five schools in Gyeonggi Province, three Dementia Safety Centers and three Mental Health Welfare Centers in Seoul, garnered high participation and satisfaction.

Professor Jung-Yoon Yeo, the head of the Department of Music Therapy, announced that the university is now able to provide specialized music therapy programs for adolescents in need of mental health care, elderly individuals at risk of mild cognitive impairment or dementia in an aging society, and users of mental health welfare centers with psychological wounds. Professor Yoon stated, 'Our university's music therapy department aims to contribute to the healthy recovery of the local community. We anticipate that it will serve as a foundation not only for addressing individual issues but also for resolving societal problems.

Meanwhile, the Department of Music Therapy, established as the first undergraduate program in the metropolitan area, aims to nurture individuals with a blend of therapeutic capabilities and integrity. It aspires to cultivate creative talents that lead the expansion of the field of music therapy in future societies. The objective is to provide the finest education, meeting both domestic and international qualifications for music therapy practitioners, with the goal of training music therapists who can professionally assist individuals in need of specialized health support through music.

The department provides practical on-site music therapy training for the recognition and acquisition of qualifications for developmental rehabilitation service personnel. It stands alone among domestic music therapy programs by operating a unique curriculum for healing music ministry, shaping specialists for roles in religious and missionary contexts.

Upon graduation, recognized as developmental rehabilitation service providers (music rehabilitation), individuals can work not only in hospitals but also in private institutions, government-operated facilities, schools, counseling centers, welfare institutions, senior facilities, alternative schools, private clinics, and religious institutions. They can also pursue postgraduate studies domestically and internationally. Furthermore, individuals can engage in various activities related to the music therapy industry, including operating music-related businesses, producing music, planning performances, and working as music teachers or instructors.
