Celebrating the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Korea and Kazakhstan, the unveiling ceremony of the statue of Abai Qunanbaiuly, a revered philosopher, national poet, and enlightener of Kazakhstan, took place on the campus on Tuesday, the 17th, at 16:30, coinciding with the visit of Kassym-Jomart K. Tokayev, President of Kazakhstan.

The establishment of the statue of Abai was at the request of Kazakhstan, which has been at the forefront of cultural and artistic exchanges and cooperation between the two countries, including with the Kazakhstan National University of Arts. President Tokayev and Lee Sang-gyun, Chairman of Shinil Academy (Shinil Middle and High School, Seoul Cyber University), jointly unveiled the statue.

Among those present at the unveiling ceremony were Tleuberdi Mukhtar, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan; Sklyar Roman Vasilyevich, Deputy Prime Minister; Askhat Aimagambetov, Minister of Education and Science; Bakyt Dyussenbayev, Ambassador of Kazakhstan to South Korea; Lee Sang-gyun, Chairman of Shinil Academy; Jang Yoon-geum, President of Sookmyung Women's University (also Chairman of the Korea-Kazakhstan Society); Kang In, President of Seoul Cyber University; actress Park Jeong-ja; and Yoon Suk-hwa.

Chairman Lee Sang-gyun, a supporter of the statue's erection, hailed Abai as "a grateful pioneer who brought hope and light to forcibly migrated Koreans in Central Asia with his soul-stirring rhythms." He remarked, "As we stand on the verge of the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Korea and Kazakhstan, the installation of Abai Qunanbaiuly's statue on our campus holds profound significance."

Meanwhile, Abai Qunanbaiuly is regarded as one of the most respected figures in Kazakhstan, and his legacy can be easily found not only in Kazakhstan but also in countries around the world. As an eminent figure in Kazakh culture, his outstanding achievements continue to inspire scholarly research into his thoughts and philosophy.
