The Department of Music Therapy will host the 2023 SCU Healing Concert on Saturday, December 23rd, at 5 p.m. The concert will take place on the 5th floor of Building A on the university campus and will be live-streamed on the official YouTube channel.

The second annual SCU Healing Praise Concert, occurring this year, is organized by the Department of Music Therapy to commemorate the establishment of the Healing Music Ministry program. Since 2022, this concert has been held around Christmas, conveying the meaning of healing and worship.

The 2023 SCU Healing Praise Concert, themed as <Healing Concert for Social Integration>, is dedicated to embodying the meanings of social integration and sharing. The concert aims to bring together people from all walks of life, fostering unity through the integration of North and South, abilities and disabilities, generations, and the collaboration of music therapists and clients. Especially this year, the event is a collaboration between the Department of Music Therapy and the Department of Unification and North Korean Studies, which is actively involved in the Capacity Building Program for North Korean Defectors, supported by the Nam-Buk Hanaja Foundation (led by Professor Yeojung Yoon from the Department of Music Therapy).

The concert will feature a piano performance by Hwang Sang-hyuk, a defector pianist, a drum performance by the Unification Echo Arts Troupe, an accordion performance by current student Na Hyang-hee, a defector, and music therapist Lee Jeong-gu, a graduate of the Department of Music Therapy. The program also includes a unique presentation by a developmental disability children's specialist, performances by String Friends, Ami d'ete Ensemble, and the Unmute the Youth Ensemble (led by Representative Jang Ha-jun), and a special choir performance by the newly founded SCU Harmony Choir, established earlier this year.

<SCU Ddim So Ri Harmony Choir> is a choir comprised of mental rehabilitation patients, current students, graduates, and professors from the Department of Music Therapy at our university. Throughout this year, the choir has been conducting weekly rehearsals, and in October, they performed at the Mapo-gu Office to commemorate Mental Health Day. The song 'Happiness,' a part of their repertoire holds special significance as it was composed and written by participants who took part in the 2023 Cultural and Artistic Healing Program, 'Healing Minds, Like Spring' (in collaboration with the Mental Health Welfare Center).

Professor Yeojung Yoon, the director of the Department of Music Therapy overseeing the entire performance, remarked, 'Through the university's social contribution club, students engage in community music therapy, gaining practical experience in bringing music to marginalized groups and local communities. The theme of this concert, social integration, originates from our university. I extend the invitation for many to join us in watching the SCU Healing Praise Concert on YouTube live towards the end of the year, and to share their warm hearts and encouragement for social integration.’
