[Photo] Beondong 5th District Comprehensive Social Welfare Center Hosts ‘SCU Our Neighborhood Welfare Worker’ 1st Term Achievement Sharing Event

The Departments of Social Welfare's collaborative partner Beondong 5th District Comprehensive Social Welfare Center (Director Lee Seung-Jae), hosted the 'SCU Our Neighborhood Welfare Worker 1st Term Achievement Sharing Event' on December 20th (Wednesday) from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. The event took place in Room 503 of Building A on the main campus. 

'SCU Our Neighborhood Welfare Worker' is a program conducted jointly by the Department of Social Welfare at our university and the Beondong 5th District Comprehensive Social Welfare Center. The aim is to understand social work tasks and activities, assess the current state and needs of the local community (our neighborhood), and address community issues through the formation of social networks.

The Welfare Center at Beondong 5th Complex, working alongside the Department of Social Welfare, has actively pursued the cultivation of local welfare practitioners versed in 'Integrated Care'?encompassing self-care, family support, mutual assistance, collective care, and social welfare. Integrated care specialists signify differentiated professionals capable of orchestrating case management that interlinks the healthcare, housing, and long-term care and welfare systems within the community.

In this performance-sharing session, 9 current students from our university's SCU community welfare program, along with the director, team leaders, and staff from the Beondong 5th Complex Social Welfare Center, as well as local community welfare agents from Gangbuk-gu, and students and professors from the School of Social Welfare, participated. The session included evaluations, presentations, an overview of key initiatives for 2024 by Director Lee Seungjae (highlighting participatory approaches imbued with social values), and insights and concluding remarks by Professor Park Kihun from the Social Welfare Department on the activities of our community welfare agents.

Simultaneously, the Department of Social Welfare, under the leadership of Dean Im Se-hee, stands as the pioneer in cyber education, constituting the most extensive cohort of full-time professors and enrolled students among the country's cyber universities. The Department encompasses majors in social welfare, elderly welfare, welfare management, and child welfare, offering unwavering support for individuals aspiring to nurture their capacities toward becoming adept social welfare professionals. Notably, it has woven a nationwide industry-academic network, constructing a framework for practical education and internship opportunities. In 2011, as the inaugural cyber university to garner accreditation from the Ministry of Education for a graduate program in social welfare, it contributed significantly to fostering specialized talent in the realm of social welfare and assumed a leadership role in advancing online social welfare education.
