Silver Award Win in the Education Institution
Category at the Asia-Pacific Open Badge Award - Held on November 17th (Mon) in Tokyo,
Japan
![]() On November 17th
(Mon), our university won the Silver Award in the Education Institution
category at the 3rd Asia-Pacific Open Badge Award, held in Tokyo, Japan.
The Asia-Pacific Open
Badge Award is an event that recognizes exemplary cases of digital learning
credentialing based on international standards across the Asia-Pacific region.
Now in its third year, it is regarded as the only award platform in Asia that
officially certifies digital badge issuance and operational models that meet
global standards such as Open Badges 3.0, W3C Verifiable Credentials, and the
Comprehensive Learner Record (CLR).
Beyond technical
completeness and service design, the award focuses on institutions that have
created tangible change in educational practice. Universities, public education
institutions, local governments, and vocational education providers are
evaluated using the same criteria as corporate entities, with strong emphasis
on practical implementation and public value.
The award-winning
project was our university’s “Social Service Data Operations” digital badge
program, which received high praise from the international judging panel for
its AI- and data-driven learning outcome certification and industry-linked
model. This achievement is seen as a significant milestone, as it represents
formal international recognition of educational innovation by a Korean online
higher education institution on the global stage. The “Social Service Data
Operations” program is a digital badge?based credentialing model designed
around AI and data utilization competencies, which are considered core skills
in the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. ![]() Key evaluation criteria
included innovation in badge design, scalability, social impact, and technical
reliability, and the program scored highly across all areas. The judging panel
commented, “Seoul Cyber University’s case is a representative model
demonstrating how an online university can connect industry, education, and
technology. In particular, its quantification and visualization of AI and data
competencies based on international standards significantly enhance learners’
social mobility and global competitiveness.”
This award holds great
significance in advancing the quality and international standing of online
higher education in Korea. Cases in which online higher education institutions
have their learning outcomes internationally certified through digital badges
remain rare even within the Asia-Pacific region, and this recognition
highlights Korea’s digital learning ecosystem as a growing presence on the
global stage.
Park Hyung Won, Director of the Global Credential Management Center of Seoul Cyber University, stated, “Guided by our vision of being a university for everyone and a leader in AI education, our university is pursuing open education initiatives. We were the first cyber university to introduce open badges into micro-degree programs, and currently more than half of our graduates receive micro-degree open badges.” |
