Love and Sharing: Laptop Donation Ceremony for Newly and Enrolled North Korean Defector Students

On September 27^th(Sat), the school successfully held a donation ceremony - Love and Sharing: Laptop Donation Ceremony for Newly and Enrolled North Korean Defector Students co-hosted by the Unification Dimdol Research Center and the club RecRe Joyful Journey chairman Lee Mi Ae. The donation ceremony is an event to donate 10 laptops prepared from the proceeds of the Recreational Donation Market to new North Korean defectors, which is meant to welcome social integration between the two Koreas, which leads to practice, and love and sharing unification for promoting the study of the vulnerable.

Lee Mi Ae, chairman of RecRe Joyful Journey and vice president of the Department of Unification, Security, and North Korean Studies, remarked, “It is deeply rewarding to know that the proceeds from the RecRe Charity Market have been used to support those who need it most. We will continue to devote our best efforts to helping North Korean defectors settle successfully in South Korean society through diverse future activities.”

Meanwhile, our university operates the Bridge Learning Support Center, organized by the Institute for Unification Bridge, every Saturday from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., providing academic assistance to university students from North Korea.

The Department of Unification, Security, and North Korean Studies, which planned this event, was newly reorganized in 2024 to cultivate experts capable of analyzing and responding proactively to unification, security, inter-Korean relations, and North Korean issues amid the rapidly changing Northeast Asian geopolitical landscape. Graduates can pursue careers in various government and public institutions such as the Ministry of National Defense, Ministry of Unification, Korea Hana Foundation, Korea Institute for National Unification, and Korea Institute for Defense Analyses, as well as in fields like inter-Korean exchange and cooperation, social adaptation mentoring for North Korean defectors, and settlement assistance. They may also advance to graduate schools specializing in unification, security, and North Korean studies.
